Miss Tanzania 2009 Miriam Gerald is out on bail. She was released after efforts by Miss Tanzania chairman Hashim Lundega bore fruit.

The beauty queen made history for being the first reigning Miss TZ to go to jail after being charged with assault and vandalism.

Lundega who is yet to address the press after the ugly incident, struggled, together with other members of the Miss Tanzania committee to ensure that Miriam was freed.

Miriam and her model boyfriend Kennedy Victor were arrested and arraigned before Kinondoni court last Friday (12.02.2010). The two were charged by Kinondoni Chief Magistrate Mchauru for assault and vandalizing property worth Ksh42,352 (Tsh720,000) that belonged to a Shaban Mushi.

Miriam, 18, won the Miss Tanzania pageant in October 2009 and was accused of the the crime early February (05.02.2010).
