January 28, 2009 was a sad day for Kenya. Kenyans witnessed the death of 47 people, including actress and Ghetto FM radio presenter Angel Wamaitha Wainaina iin the inferno that gutted the Woolworths Building that housed the Nakumatt Downtown supermarket.

Angel, who starred in local detective series “Cobra Squad” as “Sergeant Maria” is remembered a year later. Angel Trust, an organisation set up in her memory is still alive and its website, www.angeltrust.org is quite active. Two Facebook groups Angel Trust and In Memory of Angel Wainaina receive occasional comments from fans.

But it’s the activities driven by the organisation that are most alive. Members meet every Wednesday at Uhuru Park and at 11 a.m. on Thursday (28.01.10), a memorial for the victims of the fire was planned at the site. As a fan wrote on the wall of one of the Facebook groups, Angel’s memory lives on.

  1. Hey man , thanks for posting but this post isn’t vewable in Netscape it is showing only half the page.

  2. I like the first point you made there, but I am not sure I could reasonably apply that in a productive way.

  3. Just wasting some free time on Stumbleupon and I found your article . Not typically what I like to learn about, but it was absolutely worth my time. Thanks.
