Sylvia Owori, a fashion designer and magazine publisher, takes the fans’ questions…
Q: Who are some of the local and international stars you have dressed?
A: Locally, I have dressed Gaetano Kagwa, Iryn Namubiru, Juliana Kanyomozi, Bebe
Cool, Grace Nakimera and Mariam Ndagire, while on the international scene, I have dressed the president of MTV Base International, the MTV Base presenter Nadia and actor Forrest Whitaker.
Q: Why did you abandon the Miss Uganda business?
A: I left the Miss Uganda business because I had managed that business for four years and it was time for me to move on to something else. The beauty pageant was not developing me personally. I wanted to do something different that would benefit society and Uganda, Africa and the whole world. And that is why I started African Woman magazine.
Q: Which schools did you go to?
A: I went to Rock View and Matare primary schools in Tororo and Mukono districts, respectively. For my secondary education, I went to Uganda Martyrs Secondary Namugongo and St Joseph’s Girls School, Nsyambya. From there, I joined Namasagali College for A ‘level and later on I went to London from where I studied fashion and design.
Q: Why do you like wearing tight clothes?
A: I wear what I feel I’m comfortable in, something that shows off my body and expresses my views, depending on the day and place that I am in.
