Bobi Wine refutes rape allegations

After news reports that Bobi Wine had allegedly raped an eighteen-year-old girl in the parking lot of a night club, It’s Friday got back to the musician to tell his side of the story. Bobi Wine admitted that he was shaken by the story, but the Ghetto President says those are just allegations trumped up by his enemies.

RAFSANJAN ABBEY TATYA spoke to the bad man from Kamwokya.

What has become of the President, we hear you raped a girl?

I read the story in the papers but I don’t know anything about it. I don’t even know the girl they are saying I raped. Honestly, what married man would tell a newspaper that he has a private affair with some girl like the story states? That is an absolute nonsense! I’m a happily married man with a family to look after. I don’t care if people want to tarnish my name because I’m internationally known as a bad man but they should at least respect my marriage.

So, your family was hurt?

I was so heartbroken to hear such false things. I have done a lot to make this country proud but I wonder if that’s the way I should be paid back. They should produce the person I raped.

What was Barbie’s reaction on reading the story?

She is very understanding. They’ve said a lot of nonsense about her and me so she is getting used. We put our family first.

Talking about the family, how is your baby girl?

Aahh, you’re asking about Shalom Namagembe? She’s fine and I’ve added her another name, she’s called Shalom Namagembe Nairobi since her brother is called Kampala.

By the time the Pam awards ceremony ended, you had disappeared. Were you disappointed by the results?

I’m the best artiste in Uganda but I also respect other artistes. I’m an artiste who doesn’t need an award to be the best. I’m a little above that. An award is recognition for someone’s work in a particular period so that doesn’t take away the best of all time.

But I’m happy that Juliana won it; she is somebody I discovered and seeing my brainchild win is an honour, it makes me even more proud.

Some people say it should have gone to Bebe Cool…

No way, I think Bebe Cool will also win but after a while because all of us who have won it so far are slightly better than him. I must say I respect him because he was the most hardworking this year but his music lacked substance. You can’t give someone an award for singing a song like Kusi Kusi.

Juliana’s win was okay and I think if she hadn’t won, then definitely I would have won it. But like I said I’m a bit above the awards level, I’m an icon.

You became Mazzi Mawanvu after buying an Escalade but now Chameleone has also shopped for one…

Listen, I’m an artiste who works in the ghetto and works hard to achieve whatever I achieve. I have inspired so many people to do things so when Chameleone buys an

Escalade I will congratulate him for becoming yet another big artiste. If he has worked hard to get to my level I can’t feel offended because this country is not mine alone. But I’m still the only Mazzi Mawanvu in this country. We have heard the likes of Bebe Cool who has been dreaming of driving a Hummer for the last four years. Maybe by the time he buys one I will be on another level because even now I’m no longer into buying cars. I’m shopping for a chopper. I’m buying it to annoy those people who want to destroy my career. Barbie and Solomon love the Escalade more than

I do. Sometimes when Shalom is crying they drive her around to keep quiet so I think it’s high time I left them with the car and I buy myself a jet. I hope to have it by February next year on my birthday.

Has Bobi Wine the actor died?

Bobi Wine the actor hasn’t died. I just do each thing at a particular time.

Actually, there’s Bobi Wine the actor; Bobi Wine the singer; Bobi Wine the father;

Bobi Wine the leader and Bobi Wine the boxer. That explains how talented this Bobi Wine is, and that is why I annoy my “enemies” - I call them enemies because they hate me but I don’t hate them. I mean, they admire me and that’s why they’re jealous of me so they are my fans in disguise. They want to kill me and then regret because I’m irreplaceable.

Tell us about your pending bout…

I have done some good training though my opponent hasn’t been identified as yet. I would prefer somebody from outside Uganda because I don’t want to fight someone who will fear me. I want the ground to be levelled.

Are you a heavyweight?

No, am not yet there. I’m a Light Welterweight like Floyd May weather and I would have wanted to challenge for the world title one day but I’m convinced it’s impossible. I’m too busy for consistent training. The point is that I have come into boxing because I want to take it to the next level just like I have done with music.

Boxing used to be Uganda’s best sport but many things have gone wrong recently and I thought that it was time for me to come in and give this sport a new shape.

For this particular fight I’m in for fundraising but, all in all, I’m more of a singer than a boxer.
